Research and Advocacy for Change |
In the United States, Equimundo launched the country’s first-ever State of America’s Fathers report – a MenCare publication – in advance of Father’s Day. From New York to Los Angeles and Washington, DC, leading influencers, policymakers, and game-changers took an honest look at what it means to be a dad in the United States today, how it’s different than ever before, and the future of this fatherhood revolution. Equimundo is also bringing global lessons in gender-equality programming to the United States, adapting our Program H and Program P for use in Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC.
In Brazil, we conducted new research based on our International Men and Gender Equality Survey (IMAGES) to uncover what drives nonviolence in Rio de Janeiro. The resulting report reveals new findings on gender, masculinities, and nonviolent trajectories in the context of urban violence. In Rio de Janeiro, during the final stages of our Bolsa Família Companion Program for women’s economic empowerment, we trained hundreds of professionals in gender-transformative methodologies.
In Portugal, Equimundo launched The State of Involved and Nonviolent Fatherhood in Portugal in May, presenting the current state of fatherhood and caregiving in the country. The report provides recommendations for Portuguese policymakers, decision-makers, employers, health professionals, and educators on how to engage men in equitable, nonviolent caregiving.
And, in Democratic Republic of the Congo, our team is using radio and television, along with visual testimonies, to promote nonviolence and positive change. Through awareness-raising campaigns by Living Peace, both members of the military and civilians have begun to promote peace within their communities.
In our featured interview, you’ll get to know Linda Cerdeira, a Equimundo program officer in Brazil. Linda discusses the process of adapting the Living Peace methodology for work with youth in Rio de Janeiro’s schools, as part of the Youth Living Peace project.
