Local Research and Global Connections |
In Brazil, Equimundo launched the first State of Brazil’s Fathers report, presenting the current state of fatherhood and providing recommendations for equitable, nonviolent caregiving in the country. In Latin America and the Caribbean, Equimundo and partners released a new report highlighting public policies and programs in the region that work to engage men in preventing violence against women and girls.
In the United States, Equimundo led a group of men to call on President Trump to respect women’s rights and to #BeAModelMan. See the full letter to President Trump here – and add your name to the petition. A few months earlier, we launched Manhood 2.0, a gender-transformative curriculum and community-based program for adolescent boys and young men being implemented in Pittsburgh, PA and in Washington, DC.
Equimundo and UNFPA collaborated to launch the new Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) MenEngage Platform, connecting practitioners across the region to exchange best practices in engaging men and boys in gender justice and challenging harmful gender stereotypes in programming, policy, and research.
And, in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), we analyzed results from an impact evaluation of the Living Peace initiative, which revealed important and sustained change. Equimundo and affiliates also began formative research to inform the development of a new project, the Young Men’s Clubs Against Violence (YMCAV), which will work to prevent and respond to urban violence carried out by local street gangs in DRC.
In our featured interview, you’ll get to know three local change-makers working with young men for gender equality through Programme Ra, adapted from our Program H and launched in Beirut by Equimundo and Lebanese NGO ABAAD.
Happy 2017!
