In June, Equimundo and partners released the inaugural State of the World’s Fathers report, the world’s first report to provide a global view of the state of men’s contributions to parenting and caregiving. A MenCare advocacy publication, State of the World’s Fathers launched globally at the United Nations in New York, followed by international launches in 10 cities around the world. Below, we highlight a special presentation of the report, which took place in August at the Brazilian Parliament.
In August, Equimundo celebrated “Father’s Month” in Brazil by training health workers on how to engage fathers – from pregnancy and beyond – and to advocate for national policies and programs that support this involvement. In the same month, Equimundo launched the film When Men Change, illustrating interventions that have proven to be effective when engaging men and boys in advancing gender equality and preventing gender-based violence.
In our featured interview, you’ll get to know Aloys Mahwa, Equimundo’s Living Peace Project Director in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Aloys discusses his personal experiences promoting nonviolence and gender equality, along with the scale-up of Living Peace to reach thousands in North and South Kivu. In “What are the numbers not telling us?”, Equimundo-Europe’s Sofia José Santos explains why we need to go beyond statistics when we look at the economic and financial crisis in relation to men’s caregiving in Portugal.
Happy reading!
