With Instituto Promundo’s inception in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1997, Promundo's staff began a legacy of work within the country. The organization's first headquarters is internationally recognized for developing research, methodologies, community interventions, and advocacy in Brazil and Latin America – and in Portuguese-speaking countries around the world – that are evaluated and disseminated globally. The Brazil team is a separately registered NGO (Instituto Promundo), and a member of the Promundo Global Consortium.


Miguel Fontes

Executive Director and Chairman of the Board

Miguel Fontes has experience in the development of corporate social responsibility programs, and the preparation of analyses of public and economic policy to advise non-governmental and social organizations in strategic management. He also has experience in Social Impact Assessment (AIS), data collection, research design and project evaluation, and social mobilization, and has worked on projects with children and adolescents who are orphaned or left to fend for themselves because of AIDS. Miguel’s field of expertise lies in developing sustainability strategies in both Latin America and the United States. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the Catholic University of Brasilia, has a Master’s degree in International Relations and a Doctoral Degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.


Sandra Vale

Executive Manager

Sandra Vale is an Executive Manager at Promundo. She has over 15 years of experience in the management, coordination and production of projects, programs, events and campaigns for NGOs. In the last five years, she served as executive producer of the program "The Color of Culture" at Canal Futura. She made the documentary "Triangle" with Tás a Ver, and was the curator and art director of the exhibition "The Place of the Other," by the photographer Walter Firmo. Sanda previously served as the coordinator for the Rights Desk project of legal services and the mediation of conflicts in low-income communities in Rio de Janeiro, and coordinated the Civil Volunteer Service, a civic education project for young people, both of which were developed by Viva Rio. Sandra was also the financial director of ISER and provided financial management for public security at the NGO Viva Rio. Sandra is a lawyer and has a Master’s degree in History, Politics and Cultural Assets from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation.



Norma Sá

Associate Consultant

Norma Sá is an Associate Consultant at Promundo. She was a Program Assistant since 2014 with Promundo, and is currently involved in projects addressing the commercial and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. She has experience as a counselor at the National Council for the Rights of the Child and the Adolescent at the municipal and state level in Rio de Janeiro. She previously coordinated projects at the Federation of Private Foundations of the State of Rio de Janeiro, managing education projects and vocational training for women. Norma has a degree in Psychology from the University Gama Filho, a specialization in social responsibility and the management of social projects from the Veiga de Almeida University, and is certified for the development of women leaders by the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA).



Rodrigo Laro

Associate Consultant, Research and Monitoring

Rodrigo Laro is an Associate Consultant at Promundo where he carries out projects on topics related to gender equality, promotion of health and human development of children, and vulnerable adolescents and youth. He is a candidate for a PhD in Collective Health at the Health Department of the University of Brasília (UnB) with the theme: Cost-Effectiveness Evaluation of a National Program to Promote the Health of Sexually Exploited Youth. He holds a Master in Social Management and Labor from UnB, specializing in applied statistics, social marketing, and social mobilization. He also holds a degree in Social Communications. Rodrigo has 16 years of experience in conducting research and evaluating programs and policies with development agencies, companies, governments, and the voluntary sector.



Mohara Valle

Associate Consultant, Communications and Programs

Mohara Valle is an Associate Consultant for Promundo, providing support for campaigns, internal communications, and event planning. She has been working in communications since 2006, and she was previously an intern at the Communications and Marketing departments at both Petrobras and Icatu Seguros. Mohara has also been working in mobilization for social movements since 2005, participating in student organizations, and later serving as coordinator of the National Executive Council of Students in Social Communication. Mohara has a degree in Advertising and Marketing from the State Technical School Adolpho Bloch and a degree in Social Communication and Advertising from the Federal Fluminense University.
